So, after a pint of Jack Daniels, a call was made to Todd and many things were hit off. Todd arrived to "try out," but it was obvious that he was much better than any of the rest of the band, so there was no need to wait on a decision... if he'd have us, we'd have him.
Once Todd removed the drumset that we'd found in the trash and were using in the rehearsal space and brought his "professional" rig in, he proceeded to overpower the band on a consistent basis, and Kimon was forced into replacing his trusty Crate combo amp just so he could keep up with the volume.
Since the demo was done and a drummer was settled, shows started to be set up and knocked down. Club 3 in Somerville was the first public venue. Others followed. SBW also wrote new songs during this time and began to make recording plans. Todd convinced the band that there was no use in going into the studio as he owned a two-track reel-to-reel and the necessary mixing board to produce a decent demo. Having spoken the technical details to the band, he then explained that it basically meant that we could do it without paying money, and it was agreed that we would have Todd handle the next recording.
The "fragile" demo was produced in Todd's basement apartment over the course of a few days. Album art consisted of the band getting together, clipping artwork from various sources, handwriting the band/recording info, and then bringing it all to Copy Cop to be copied.
Speeny then moved on to playing more live shows and writing new songs. Their next effort consisted of four songs that, although a step forward creatively, did not get much attention. The track "I Don't Want To Save You" was included on the "Sounds from the Underground" compilation, but the other tracks mostly went unnoticed. "Hey", "Superhuman" and "Go" did not get much local, or otherwise, attention.
Kimon decided that it was time to move on to other endeavors soon after a recording session at Powerhouse, to lay down "Go", and the band began searching for a new guitar player.
