SBW put out an APB for a new singer and guitarist. After many vocal tryouts, the position was offered to Deep Chinappa. Originally from India, he brought traditional Indian scales to the band, and his experiences playing to large crowds overseas. On the guitar front, after many long and tedious months, Robb Papagno finally hit that nice spot between rock, metal and goth, and was welcomed into the family. The band, now fifty percent new, decided that a new name was in order, and after much discussion Wither was chosen. New songs were penned and a three-song self-titled cassette demo was produced. Just about the time this demo came out of the Tape Complex, the band learned that there already was a "Wither" locally, so the name was then changed to "Sift". A two-song CD was released after the name change and work on a full-length began - while the band also booked more and more shows and grew - relatively - in popularity. Halfway through the recording of "Yellow", Robb decided to leave the band. Justin Burmeister was available, and decided that he'd come back and fill the guitar role again. He finished the guitar parts for "Yellow" and the band continued moving forward, branching out and playing gigs in NH, NY and NC. In 1999, Deep Chinappa moved ahead with his solo career and the band began a search for its third singer...
